Resident Advisor Top Acts of 2011

For those of you who, like us, CANT STAND the DJ Mag awards. Here is a much better recap of the heavy hitters this year from Resident Advisor. There’s an emphasis on tech house, progressive, and techno…which is fine with us because these guys deserve the credit. We also like the fact that they have a category for DJs and a different one for live performers.

Congratulations to Justin Martin & Claude VonStroke  for showing the world how we do it in SF and finishing in the top 100. Dirtybird Records all day.

Claude Vonstroke (Dirtybird) at #39

Justin Martin (Dirtybird) at #79

Bromance #1

The DJ’s DJ. Producer Extraordinaire. Brodinski.

Hailing from France, Brodinski has been taking names and climbing the charts from when he first burst out into the scene in ’07 with his debut track, Bad Runner. Since then, he has gained recognition and praise from literally every big name in the industry (Jack Beats, Soulwax, Tiga, N so much moar!) What makes him so unique is his uncanny ear to blend all genres without breaking a sweat. His music combines bass heavy house, smooth minimal, and cutting-edge techno. Don’t sleep on this man because he’ll break your neck.

This past weekend Brodinski, along side Gesaffelstein (say that 5 times fast), released an epic 2 track EP, Bromance #1, to kick off his newest label, Bromance (whew, that was a lot of “bro’s” in one sentence)! The title of his tune speaks for itself. It’s 5 AM and the party has just begun. The track is a masterpiece of  phat, punching basslines over bouncing, hypnotic synths and smoooooth vocals. It’s okay, take 1 more….Go to that happy place….”and let the beat control your body”……

Trouble & Bass presents – Shuffle Code EP

This EP from Samo Sound Boy is far from traditional and much closer to ingenius. The original shuffle code track is a giant smorgasbord of different sounds and samples that combine tropical, tech, and dutch elements all rolled up into a giant spliff that flow perfectly as the vocals,  ”I’m so high” play out during the song.

My favorite track on this EP is easily Me and You. Its definitely an unusual one and I get the feeling that this track could go unnoticed if its not heard on a banging system by a careful listener. Thankfully we have both. It’s a slower track that builds  as the song progresses. The perfectly timed vocals draw the listener in even deeper into its hypnotic rhythm. Because it’s a slower track, its perfect for slowing the crowd down in the middle of a set while still keeping them interested. Production wise this song is top-shelf, it doesn’t use a lot of unnecessary sounds, Samo Sound Boy knows exactly what works and has assembled it masterfully in this one. Another success for Trouble & Bass. Its out today so go buy  it!
